Breaking Barriers to Interoperable Healthcare at HIMSS12
Healthcare stakeholders are highly aware of the critical drivers in the global health IT marketplace. In the U.S., among the many drivers they face include the need to meet new meaningful use, quality metrics and many other requirements. Conscious of the new challenges, changes, and investment, healthcare stakeholders are searching for straight forward answers to critical interoperability questions. Finding solutions to these important issues is the focus of the HIMSS12 Interoperability Showcase - Breaking Barriers to Interoperable Healthcare. The Interoperability Showcase exhibit provides a full landscape of health IT solutions, live demonstrations of interoperability, and educational opportunities that connect thousands of health IT buyers and end-users to answer your most complex health IT questions.
Breaking Barriers to Adoption
Did you know a 100-bed hospital utilizes hundreds of interfaces to transfer patient data from department-to-department? Standards-based interoperable systems reduce: costs, maintenance and improves patient centered care. Information is powerful! However, to break the barriers to adoption, stakeholders must realize and embrace the benefits of interoperability.
The HIMSS12 Interoperability Showcase advocates adoption through a variety of educational opportunities and networking. Learn more about interoperability as industry thought leaders, health IT developers and clinician end-users converge and share their rich experiences and knowledge at the HIMSS12 Interoperability Showcase.
Educational Opportunities at the HIMSS12 Interoperability Showcase
- Showcase Theaters: HIMSS12 attendees can choose from over 50 presentations that will cover a range of topics including interoperability, Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise, and federal initiatives from the Office of the National Coordinator. Showcase Theater presentations will be held continuously throughout the conference. The Showcase Theater schedules will be available online in February 2012- Plan your visit in advance.
- HIMSS Live Exchange: View health information exchange solutions at work and hear from providers who use them every day in their clinical environment. The HIMSS Live Exchange theatre is a unique opportunity for attendees to bridge the gap between their technical and clinical knowledge. HIMSS Live Exchange presentations will be online and in the Resource Guide so that you can plan to come and see how these prominent organizations have put interoperability to work!
- Use Case Tours: Attend one of our HIMSS Interoperability Showcase use case tours and see how health IT vendors have used Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) solutions to solve complex health information exchange problems. This is your chance to see clinical information systems live in action as they process patients’ right before your eyes!

The HIMSS Interoperability Showcase Connected Demonstration area will feature clinical information systems that function in Ambulatory, In-patient, Emergency Care settings Chronic Care, Public Health, Clinical Research and others. These systems will be live and ready to show you the details of how standards-based solutions such as IHE profiles and other government initiatives address the challenging needs of healthcare providers. . This collaborative effort of the leading vendors and organizations in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase are breaking the barriers to implementation and will provide your organization with solutions to help you do the same.
