HIMSS Chapters Encore “Best of the Best” Contest
HIMSS local chapters provide continuous educational content throughout the year, and we aim to showcase these initiatives at the annual HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition.
Guidelines
- The chapter submitting the entry must be in good standing.
- The session must have already been delivered at a HIMSS Chapter event. It may be either a virtual or an in-person educational session.
- The Call for Encore Chapter Content will be as follows:
- Submission Timeframe is Oct 1 – Oct 31, 2024, through a simplified survey link
- Winners will be announced on November 8, 2024
- Winners will receive an official invitation to present at HIMSS25
- Through a survey tool, the Chapter must submit the following information which will be judged:
- Title
- Summary Description
- Learning Objectives
- Speakers
- Why this session is deemed the “Best of the Best”
- Point of Contact
- An esteemed panel of judges from both the HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition C&P Team and HIMSS will review nominations and select a winner in each category (Large Chapter, Medium Chapter, Small Chapter).
- The winners will be invited to present at HIMSS25 during one of three sessions on Wednesday, March 5, 2025:
- Session 100 (12:45 PM – 1:45 PM)
- Session 118 (2:00 PM – 3:00 PM)
- Session 136 (3:15 PM – 4:15 PM)
- Speakers will be awarded one non-transferable full conference registration. They will be responsible for travel, hotel, and incidentals.
Timeline
- October 1, 2024 – HIMSS25 Chapters Encore Call for Proposals Opens
- October 31, 2024 – HIMSS25 Chapters Encore Call for Proposals Closes
- November 1-7, 2024 – Submitted proposals are reviewed, scored, and recommended by HIMSS Review Team
- November 8, 2024 – HIMSS25 Chapters Encore Proposal submitters notified of accept/decline status
- November 15, 2024 – Deadline for accepted proposal submitters to confirm
If your proposal is accepted:
- November 29, 2024 – First draft of presentation materials due to Mentor and HIMSS
- December 1-15, 2024 – Mentor review of presentations; comments sent back to presenters
- December 16-20, 2024 – Speaker revision of presentations (if necessary)
- January 13, 2025 – Final speaker presentation materials due
- March 5, 2025 – 2025 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition, Las Vegas, NV
How Proposals Are Evaluated
Proposals are evaluated by a panel of peer reviewers using the following criteria:
- Value of proposal topic
- Timeliness and appropriateness of topic
- Proposal title, description and learning objectives support the content of the proposal
- Commercial influence or product bias is Yes/No
1. Please rate the value of the proposal’s topic.
- Does this proposal contain information that appeals to a HIMSS audience?
- Is there significant value to the attendees?
- Is the proposal relevant to current topics that affect healthcare and technology?
- What are the practical applications of the ideas presented?
- Does it include reasoning and documentation to support conclusions, recommendations, and outcomes?
- Does this proposal advance existing ideas or present new ideas?
- Will this proposal expand the attendee’s knowledge of technologies and applications beyond entry-level basics?
- Does the proposal provide guidelines or models for implementation?
2. Please rate the timeliness and appropriateness of the proposal’s topic.
- Will the proposal be up-to-date and cutting-edge at the time of presentation in six to nine months?
- Will the topic have implications in the future?
- How relevant is the topic in the context of pending legislation, regulations, and technology?
3. Please rate how well the proposal title, description and learning objectives support the content of the proposal.
- Are the learning objectives appropriate and the right number for the proposal content?
- Do the objectives match the proposal content?
- Does the proposal title match the content?
- Does the brief session description provide an accurate overview of the proposal content?
4. Please rate if commercial influence or product bias was avoided. Yes/No
- Does the proposal avoid commercial content?
- If the proposal includes a consultant/market supplier, does it also include a user/client perspective?
- Does the proposal mention specific products, systems, or market suppliers?
- The proposal must not promote an organization, product and/or service. Avoid endorsements: do not explicitly endorse any products, solutions, or services in your proposal. Your role is to inform, not to sell.
