Plan for Temperature Changes
A conference wardrobe that can adjust throughout the day starts with three pieces:
- An indoor outfit suitable for sessions, meetings and exhibit hall time
- One warm layer such as a blazer, cardigan or light sweater
- A spring coat that provides protection from cold mornings, wind and light rain
The forecast closest to the event should determine how heavy the coat needs to be. The most useful option will provide enough warmth for the morning while remaining easy to carry once inside. Layers should also be simple to remove and manage. With so much movement throughout the day, an extra sweater or bulky coat can quickly become another item to carry between sessions and meetings.
Choose Footwear for Long Days and Wet Pavement
HIMSS27 attendees can expect considerable time on their feet. Footwear needs to support hours of standing and walking inside McCormick Place, along with any outdoor travel between hotels, restaurants and evening events.
Bring shoes that are already broken in and comfortable for extended wear. Look for soles with reliable traction on wet pavement, and consider water-resistant materials if rain is in the forecast. Smooth-soled dress shoes may be appropriate for an evening event but less practical for a full conference day or damp sidewalks.

The daytime high does not reflect every part of an attendee’s schedule. Before leaving the hotel, check:
- The temperature during the morning departure
- The wind and expected timing of rain
- The evening temperature if plans continue after conference programming ends
If rain is expected, a water-resistant coat, compact umbrella and shoes with good traction should cover most conference-day situations. These small decisions can reduce discomfort and unnecessary trips back to the hotel, leaving more time and attention for HIMSS27.
