Thirteen years. That’s how many times I have stepped into the dynamic world of the HIMSS Global Health Conference, and yet, every year, the experience feels fresh, transformative, and deeply personal. HIMSS25 in Las Vegas was no exception—it was a powerful reminder of why we do this work and why the intersection of healthcare and technology continues to fuel my passion.
For many, 13 is an unlucky number. But for me, it has always been a symbol of transformation, growth, and resilience. And in my 13th year at HIMSS, it couldn’t have been more fitting. This year wasn’t just another milestone—it was a moment of clarity about the impact we have as educators, researchers, and leaders shaping the future of healthcare.
From the moment I arrived, there was an undeniable energy in the air. The buzz of innovation, the excitement of long-overdue reunions, and the shared commitment to solving healthcare’s toughest challenges created an electrifying and humbling atmosphere. As a longtime HIMSS attendee, I have seen the evolution of digital health—from the early conversations about interoperability to the now tangible advancements in AI, data-driven care, and patient empowerment.
This year, the conversation was different. More than ever, there was an urgency to move beyond concepts and into action. AI was not just a buzzword but a catalyst for reshaping clinical workflows, improving population health, and redefining patient engagement. Walking through the exhibit floor, I was struck by the tangible solutions being demonstrated—real-world applications that are no longer just theoretical but actively transforming healthcare delivery.

One of the most profound moments for me was a session on AI-driven health equity, a topic that sits at the heart of my work. Listening to experts share real data, real stories, and real solutions underscored why this movement matters. The technology is here, but its impact depends on how we wield it—how we ensure inclusivity, mitigate biases, and use AI as a tool for empowerment, not exclusion.
But HIMSS is more than just technology. It’s about people. Every conversation, every handshake, and every moment of shared insight reminded me that innovation alone does not drive progress—collaboration does. I reconnected with colleagues who have been on this journey with me, met new visionaries pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, and was reminded of the immense talent and dedication that fuels this industry.
As educators and researchers, we have an immense responsibility in shaping the workforce of today and tomorrow. The rapid pace of technological advancement demands that we rethink how we prepare the next generation—not just by teaching technical skills, but by fostering adaptability, ethical leadership, and a deep understanding of how technology impacts real people. We are not just training professionals; we are empowering changemakers who will carry forward the lessons learned at HIMSS into hospitals, clinics, research labs, and boardrooms.
This mission is what has driven my volunteer work with HIMSS over the years—as a chapter leader and community leader, I have been privileged to work alongside dedicated professionals who believe in the power of education, mentorship, and advocacy. Through my involvement, I have witnessed firsthand how HIMSS communities foster connections, drive policy discussions, and amplify the voices of those working tirelessly to improve healthcare. It is this spirit of service and leadership that makes HIMSS more than just a conference—it is a movement.
As I leave Las Vegas, I carry with me a deep appreciation for how far we have come and a renewed drive to shape what comes next. HIMSS25 was not just another conference; it was a call to action—a reminder that we are not passive observers of the future of healthcare. We are the architects of it.
And as for my lucky number? HIMSS25 proved that 13 isn’t just a number—it’s a symbol of impact, growth, and limitless possibilities.
“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” — Seneca
Until next year, HIMSS. Let’s keep innovating, educating, and transforming—together.
